Club notes 12 July

LIMERICK HURLING
The All-Ireland qualifier between Limerick and Clare took place on Saturday 9th July in Thurles and ended Clare 0-19 Limerick 0-15 in what is to be Limerick’s last day out in the All-Ireland Championship. On another note, we would like to send our best wishes to TJ Ryan who has stepped down as manager. He contributed hugely to Limerick hurling in the past few years but was unfortunately unable to bring some silverware home. With that said, we had some unbelievable matches to look back on, how could we forget the Limerick/Kilkenny game of 2014 when TJ was fresh in as newly appointed manager. We hope a worthy replacement can be found.

LIMERICK FOOTBALL
On the same day in Thurles, the All-Ireland qualifier between Limerick and Cork unfortunately resulted in another loss, Limerick fell short scoring 10 points to Cork’s 2 goals and 12 points. That puts an unfortunate end to the All-Ireland championship for both codes.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING
Games have been few in the past few weeks due to the inter-county championships but the action will re-commence when we take on Ballybricken/Bohermore in Caherelly at 7:30 Thursday 14th July. Looking forward to a good display.

JUNIOR HURLING
Fixtures as listed: Claughaun vs Kildimo/Pallaskenry which will be in Childers Rd. Monday 18 Jul at 7:00pm
also Claughaun vs Na Piarsaigh in Childers Rd. Monday 25 Jul 7:00

U16 FOOTBALL
It was Claughaun v Monaleen in a close encounter at Childers road which produced a fine display of football but unfortunately we couldn’t turn our efforts into scores in the final minutes. We recorded a loss, ending 1:9 to 2:8 – Hard luck lads, it’s back to the drawing board and prepare for Galbally in two weeks time. This is a fine team and we deserve success, keep a positive mentality and work hard and there will be better results.

U14 FOOTBALL
Our U-14 footballers will face St. Patrick’s in the championship at our own pitch and is has been reset for 6:30 on Wed 13th July. Many of these players from both clubs play together as Southside Gaels so it will be an interesting game. Best of luck lads. All support welcome at Claughaun.

U14 HURLING
Southside Gaels went out to Monaleen’s grounds on Tuesday last and came home winners on a scoreline of 4:13 to 3:12 which was a hard fought battle. We also played a challenge against a tough Nenagh side in Rathbane on Friday evening and emerged victorious after scoring 2:15 to 4:5, it was another boost to the team who are in winning ways. Congratulations to all involved and for the hard work, effort and sacrifices made to contribute to the team’s success. It is not just the players who are putting in the effort but it’s the parents and supporters. It’s great to see so many coming to the games to cheer on the lads. We are in a great position to finish out the season as winners and all will be told in our last two games. We’ll be up against Doon on the 20th of July and then Garryspillane in August which will decide our fate. Everyone in the club is behind ye lads, give it all you’ve got and success will follow.

UNDERAGE
Once again it has to be admired, the efforts made by the underage coaches and parents, it’s great to see lots of young lads and girls participating week in, week out. Thanks to all involved on behalf of the club.
