U14 Match Update:

Mr Binman U14H HC Div 3A:         Claughaun 5-9 1-7 St Patricks

On Wednesday 19th June we welcomed our neighbours St Patrick’s to Childers road knowing a win was a must to keep our hopes of qualification alive.

The opening 10 minutes went by without a score as neither team were giving an inch. Our first score arrived when a lovely delivery from our half back Peter Loo found Jamie Hannan who laid the ball off to Aaron Considine and he slotted it over the bar. Our second point arrived when Aaron Considine won his own ball in the full forward turned and put it over the black spot. St Patrick’s replied with a free to leave the minimum between the sides after 16mins. The first major of the game arrived after some great work by Jack McNally as forced a mishit clearance which fell into the path of our man again Aaron Considine who finished to the net. St Patrick’s to their credit went and got the next 2 points and the game really opened up and came to life. Our next score came through Jamie Hannan after he intercepted a pass finished calmly to the net. Both sides went free for free before the short whistle leaving the game a very even 2-3 to 5 points at half time.

2nd half:

The second half started very much like the first with every ball being hotly contested for and both defences on top, until Kian O’Brien won possession in the middle of the pitch and drove straight down the centre of the St Patrick’s defence before slotting over. This score seemed to inspire our lads as we started to dominate all over the pitch. Our half back line of Peter Loo, Conor McMahon and Ben O’Callaghan were wining ball and setting up attack after attack while Cathal Casey and Adam Hayes at the back were like two immovable objects. Our midfield duo of John O’Reilly(0-1) and Kian O’Brien (0-2) were as hard working as ever and also chipped in with a couple of great scores. Our 3rd three pointer was a thing of beauty, Jimmy O’Reilly emerged from a ruck with the ball (somehow) laid it off to the oncoming Aaron Considine who let the ball off first time to Jamie Hannan who caught and turned his man before finishing off his left. Our next point arrived from distance when Conor McMahon at centre back broke up the St Patrick’s attack before striking a beautiful ball to Aaron Considine who turned and split the posts from 60 metres. St Patrick’s free taker was striking some great frees all evening and continued this with 2 more in a row. With 5 minutes to go our Goalkeeper Emmett Hehir was called into action when he made an unbelievable save diving to his left hand side, unfortunately for us the St Patrick’s corner forward was the first to react and struck the ball to the net. With our next attack we made sure of the game with some fine link up play between Peter Loo, Troy Cahill and Aaron Considine with the latter finishing to net with serious power to put the result beyond doubt. We didn’t finish there though and Jamie Hannan who was causing problems all game turned over a ball close to the opposition goal before turning and hammering the ball to the net. The final result read 5-9 to 1-7 in our favour. We know go to Cois Laoi Gaels in our last game of this series with a major chance of qualification. Well done to all players on the night, a great performance!!

Team: Emmett Hehir, Adam Hayes(C), Cathal Casey, Peter Loo, Conor McMahon, Ben O’Callaghan, Kian O’Brien(0-2), John O’Reilly(0-1), Troy Cahill, Jamie Hannan(3-1), Jimmy O’Reilly, Jack McNally, Aaron Considine(2-5)

Patsy Nicholas JAHL Final            :   Sat 22/Jun in Crecora :   Claughaun 1-12 4-14 Patrickswell

The JAHL final 2019 was also a Championship ‘double up’ so a lot at stake on the night.  A huge partisan crowd saw Claughaun get a great start to the game when Kyrin McGarry found the back of the onion bag – and with teams level(ish) after 15 mins we conceded 3 goals in a short space of time. But to our credit we battled back, contesting every ball and ended up going in at ht 1-6 to 4-4 down. We started well in the second half with the first 2 points to bring it back to 5. Both teams fought for every ball but Patrickswell proved more clinical closing out the game strongly. 10 wides for us means we’ll need to convert more of our chances for sure. That’s 3 in a row League titles for Patrickswell and we congratulate Anthony Carmodys men on this achievement & on a sporting tough game that will benefit both sides.  Ref Seamus Hayes did a great job and thanks to Mikey Roberts who presented the cup & City Board for hosting such a successful league campaign. We now turn our attention to the championship itself with the confidence of a positive league campaign behind us. A big thank you also to ‘Sports Action Photography) & Seamus McElligott for his fantastic photos on the nite.
