Club Notes 16 August 2016

INTERMEDIATE HURLING
We took to the field at Caherconlish on Saturday 13 August at 7:00 to face Hospital/Herbertstown who emerged victorious with 2 goals and 13 points to Claughaun/ Old Christians 15 points. Hard luck but we’re back to the grinding stone for the next game.
INTERMEDIATE Football
Our last day out in the championship was against Bruff  and we were victorious on a scoreline of 9 points to 6. It was a great display and we dug deep and battled until the final whistle to win. Well done to the team and management.
Minor FOOTBALL
On behalf of the committee, management and the team in Claughaun we would like to thank the West board for our participation in the West Minor Football Championship. It was a great opportunity to play at a high standard and against teams we would not have usually been drawn against. There was some high scoring games and it was well enjoyed after recording some great victories.
U14 HURLING
Southside Gaels will face Garryspillane in the last group game of the championship this Wednesday evening in Garryspillane’s grounds to hopefully book a place in the county semi final against Ballybrown. We had a slight setback when we faced Doon in Rhebogue two weeks ago and it finished all square after being about six points ahead with only minutes to go. We put on a great performance but let it slip in the end when the determined Doon team fought back. We will learn from this for sure. Congratulations to all the players for getting this far on their first attempt as an amalgamated team made up of Claughaun, Old Christians and St. Patrick’s. It has been a revelation and players are playing at a high level due to the hard work put in by the team of coaches available. We thank the parents and supporters for attending all the games and we hope to have plenty more reason for big turnouts from the success of this team.
SEVEN A SIDE
Well done to our footballers that took part in the Limerick Big Ball Club 7’s and also thanks to Rathkeale GAA club for organising the tournament. We had some wins and losses but it was great to be a part of it. We sincerely want to thank the coaches Donal Brennan, Mickey Graham and Tom McGarry for their efforts to make this a contest.
