Match Reports:

U10F Blitz:

On Sat last we played our final blitz of the year out in UL. Thankfully the weather was better this time. We played 3 games against very strong teams from Bruff, Kildimo/Pallaskenry & Castletown Ballyagran. Due to soccer commitments we were down a 2nd team. We played 3 games W1, D1, L1 (narrowly!) Great goalkeeping display from Mya Moloney in the 1st game to snatch a draw for us.

Overall the boys, girls and parents can be proud of the effort and commitment put in by the kids over the last couple of months. Great stuff by all the kids on the day well done ???.

Team: Darragh Tuite,  Mya Moloney, Jack Kiely, Jack Kennedy, Calvin O’Brien, Jamie Lawlor, Luke Morgan,  Alex Moore, Donal McMahon, Conor Griffin, Scott Mcmahon, Matus Nadasky & Jake O’Callaghan.  The club are indebted to coaches Colin Tuite & Derek Lawler for their support all year.

City JAHC Final Replay – Claughaun 2-12 1-14 Patrickswell

We reached the local holy grail last Sunday afternoon in Mungret when we dethroned reigning champions Patrickswell by a single point in a very entertaining game. In a repeat of the initial game Patrickswell edged the first half and went in at the break ahead 1-7 to 0-8, at one stage leading 1-6 to 0-4. We had to rejig our team for 2nd half with Conor Sherlock(capt) moving to full forward and his green flag contribution coupled with Keith Quinn’s goal swung the advantage in Claughauns way. With 7 mins to go we were 3 points ahead and prevailed against a strong finish from the ‘Well as they closed the gap to a solitary point when ref Kieran Flaherty blew the final whistle. This win caps off a great season for this team and will give great confidence for the future. We finished on our 20th game of the season so lots of hurling for this young team(bar a few!) and we look forward to next year! We congratulate Patrickswell on a great game of hurling and their club in securing the County SHC onthe previous Sunday.

The club wants to thank all who participated in any way during the season & indeed the delight on the faces from the underage players on the pitch celebrating with the team was a fantastic sight to see.

Billy Galligan led the team and supporters in a great rendition of ‘The Boys Of Claughaun’ once Capt Conor Sherlock had received the Sweet Afton Cup from City Board Chairman Michael Roberts.

Claughaun GAA wish to thank Mungret GAA for making their pitch available despite the inclement weather, City Board GAA Sean Bourke & Michael Roberts, Referee Kieran Flaherty for officiating at such short notice, Patsy Nicholas for his continued sponsorship of the City JAHC, the families & supporters of all players & management for their patience & support all season & to the Executive & Committee of Claughaun Gaa for the excellent support all season. To the family of Tom Connolly for the sponsorship of the new club jerseys. A special note of thanks to my colleague Alan Small without whom these notes would not be possible!
