Match Reports:

City JAHC R7 : Claughaun 2-11  1-13 Crecora.

In a must win game for both sides to make the top four and qualify for the semi-finals, it was championship pace from the outset in Rathbane. With nothing much between the teams the first half ended with Claughaun firing over two late points to edge it at half time 8-5pts. We tacked on another point at start of 2nd half but then received a double blow when Crecora scored 1-2 without reply but saw our fullback & captain Conor Sherlock going off with a nasty hand injury. With 7 minutes of normal time remaining it was Crecora 1-10 0-11 Claughaun when Eamo Madden & Martin Fitzharris both goaled to ensure a frantic finish with Crecora adding three more points as the match neared its conclusion.

A hard fought game ended when ref Patsy Coffey blew the final whistle after 8 mins of injury time to see us over the line by a single point. We now look forward to the semi final draw in what has proven to be a very competitive championship this year with 10pts required from 14pts to reach the semi finals.

Team: Gerry Butler, Darren Kenihan, Conor Sherlock, Keith Quinn, Dean Kennedy, Jack Molyneaux, Cathal McHugh, Ian McNamara, Eoin Quigley, Martin Fitzharris, Kyrin McGarry, Killian Hannan, Emmet Harty, Macauley Murtagh, John Moloney. Greg O’Connor, Sam Mullins, Matthew Graham, Eamo Madden, Peter Garland, Paul Kiely, Evan Brommell, Finbar Ryan, Mickey Quinlan.

Our U16 footballers lost shield semi-final to Croom on a score line of 3-12 to 4-6. Our opponents hit the ground running and opened up a 14 point lead before we got our first score of the game after 20mins. We got ourselves back into the game just before the short whistle grabbing 2-2 without reply.

Our boys started the second half very brightly playing some lovely football while all the time chipping away at the home sides lead. Entering the final 10 minutes we had closed the gap to 5pts and could of even been closer only for the Croom goalie making 2 fine saves.

With 3 points between the sides into injury time we couldn’t get the goal we needed to bring the teams level. Credit to all our lads who could of easily thrown in the towel after going 14 points behind early on. With a very young panel on the night the boys can be extremely proud of their performance.

IFC R5: Claughaun 0-15  1-11 St Patricks.

Our Intermediate football team qualified for IFC County Semi-final last Sat with a hard fought win over St Patricks. Leading 08-05 at half time we responded well each time St Pats threatened to draw level. Overall, a very pleasing performance with some great point taking by our sharpshooters worthy of any occasion. We now await the outcome of the quarter finals which are being held on weekend 7/8 Sep to find out our semi-final opponents.
